Variables of Parents’ Marital Satisfaction That Influence Mental Health of Children

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study is to determine the valid variables of parents’ marital satisfaction that affect mental health of children. Regarding the relationship between parents’ marital satisfaction and their children’s mental health, five factors of parents’ marital satisfaction have positive correlations with the factors of children’s mental health, e.g., satisfaction with life, self-esteem, attitude toward life, emotion, sociability. This means that the higher the level of parents’ marital satisfaction is, the better children’s mental health is. With regard to the effect of parents’ marital satisfaction on children’s mental health, relationship with children, which is one of the factors of parents’ marital satisfaction, had the greatest effect on mental health of children. This means that higher marital satisfaction of parents has a positive influence on mental health of their children. These results imply that parents’ high marital satisfaction and good relations between parents and children are very important for mental health of children.
